The trend: Video-conferencing platform Zoom and German startup Beyond Presence are both working on AI avatars that would let users create a digital twin to stand in for themselves whenever needed.

A new meaning for zoomies: Zoom is developing AI Companion, which will let users create short clips with avatars that will look and sound like themselves.

• The add-on will cost an extra $12 per month and will be released in early 2025.
