The news: Search referral traffic from generative AI (genAI) is on the rise as more consumers use AI chatbots and assistants for online shopping, travel planning, and managing their finances.

In February, retail traffic from genAI sources grew 1,200% compared with July 2024, per Adobe.

By the numbers:

  • 39% of US consumers have used genAI for online shopping and 53% plan to do so this year.
