The news: More than three-fourths (78%) of US adults support extending federal funding tax credits for ACA insurance, according to a just-released KFF survey. That includes 57% of Republicans who support President Donald Trump.
Why it matters: Tax credits are a key sticking point in the Senate stopgap funding negotiations. Most Democratic senators support extending the credits past the end of the year—and their constituents agree.
Thirty-nine percent said Trump deserves the blame if the tax credits aren’t extended. 37% put the onus on Republicans, and 22% blame Democrats.
Zooming out: Many Americans were unaware the ACA tax credits are expiring at the end of the year—31% said they knew nothing about it, while 30% heard “a little,” per KFF.
The 78% support was polled after respondents were told about the tax credit expiration for some of the low- and moderate-income households that buy insurance through the ACA marketplace.
